A- day. Read several new chapters of Musuko. Man, it seems like the author is moving towards a more plot-oriented approach now, I don’t mind all that much though I miss when it was just cute stuff. The translators went through several chapters just the other day, which is a nice pickup of pace. So the wannabe demon king guy, Crown, first bullies the ‘independent’ demons from a while back into joining his revolution, and then launches an attack on a human facility holding a ton of those magic stones. In the process, one of his soldiers gets shot to pieces, and she’s the sister of one of his named underlings. ;_; On the other side of things, the momma herself is dealing with a lot of stuff, as Gospel had somemedical tests with prove that he’s strongly resistant to “AD” weaponry; she has to convince the doctor to falsify the tests while his father sends her heavy-duty suppressants surreptitiously. And chii talks with a college professor who explains how, exactly, demonization works: Demons have a organ inside of them called a “gate” that draws power from another universe, and those stones are like artificial gates, meaning they can give their wielders massive, massive powers, and which is why Crown wants them. Lotta stuff going on, oof.

Just chilled at home and finished Per Aspera, ugh. A- day.

Yes! Got a good chunk of work done on some college stuff, A- overall.

Solid A day. Very good day at work, I was pretty happy.

B- day. Bombed my COM 443 quiz 😦

A- day, went to a new ristorante and had a decent day at work 😀

A- day, went out to my Japanese place and did a bit of shopping, then went home and chilled.

B+. Ugh, I didn’t find time to either get vaxxed or get those emails off. I’ll have to plan out better next week.

Get vaxxed on Friday – Scheduled it for next week, not this one, alas.

Email some stuff

Per Aspera. It’s a city building/simulation game where you play as an AI who’s supposed to terraform Mars for humanity by building a base for human settlers, who provide scientific research that lets you research new types of bioengineered life forms, etc. to slowly change the temperature, pressure, and gas levels (from CO2 to 30% oxygen and 70% nitrogen) so that Mars can be a healthy green and blue planet like Earth.

I’m not going to refund this game because I put 22 hours in it and the devs deserve some credit for that, but mother of Christ, I am at my wit’s end with it. This city builder game is insanely slow-paced and boring. Now, terraforming is supposed to be slow, and it’s a good thing that despite the game’s impressive scientific realism (which is a major credit to the devs, its one aspect I really liked) you can terraform Mars in a hundred years rather than five hundred. Unfortunately, even on max speed (x16) you spend so much time just sitting around waiting for pressure/oxygen/nitrogen meters to tick up it’s mind-numbing.

This wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the story. The plot of the game is actually not too bad, there’s a bit of interesting conspiracy behind the space colonization program. Unfortunate, the character you play as, the AI named Ami, is so, so annoying. I got this game partially because I was excited to see Phil LaMarr’s name in the credits, but oh my God, the AI sounds like an unfriendly DMV employee. I could stand it if she were a side character, but hearing her constantly, constantly pop up with cloying, heavy-handed “reflections,” which are irritating internal monologues that can be summed up as, “Hey, player, we’re the devs and we REALLY want you to think about your HUMANITY and the MEANING OF CONSCIOUSNESS, don’t forget!” absolutely killed my desire to play the game. I’m probably going to put another 22 hours into it because I don’t like leaving games un-beaten, but it’s going to be a chore for me and nothing else. Again, though, I do salute the devs for having some good ideas and hope they’ll take my suggestions, which can be summed up as:

GOOD: Scientific detail and realism
BAD: Very very boring, they should add x32 or x64 speeds for long stretches of terraforming
UGLY: The voice acting and dialogue is vomit-inducingly annoying. 😦

My fave author (well, one of my faves) Ron Malfi’s latest collection of spooooky novellas (not short stories), Ghostwritten! Like I suppose every well-known horror author since Lovecraft, these stories take place in the same universe, but they’re not really directly connected. And they’re all explicitly supernatural, not just ‘implying’ it as, say, in Skullbelly (until the end) and Come With Me (again, till the end). Don’t want to say too much about them as they’re short enough that even brief descriptions would give em away, but I very much enjoyed all of them (though the second with the two brothers was definitely my fave, VERY lovecraftian) and I am glad I bought this. Almost always have a good time with Malfi, and this is another credit to his account. 5 stars!

What I said above.

College stuffies~

1: Finish up a second big project – About halfway done with this, actually

2: Get Dragonar onto its BDs-Done for the most part with my stuff at least.

3: Maybe finish up a 3rd big project related to Berserk-This will be on hold for a loooong time while Mori-sensei finishes it up.

4: Obviously, get all my affairs in order–will, etc.

5: Finish a FOURTH big project I’ve had thoughts about for a while. Won’t say much more about it other than it involves Visual Novels.

6: *maybe* finish up a fic I’ve always wanted to put out. But this is really extra.

7: Read the end of Girl Genius. At least I got to see Lucrezia kicked out of Agatha’s mind, so that’s something.

8: Play Front Mission 5.

9: Play Brigandine: Grand Edition. I think I’ll work on these emulation related things when I get a new computer–a new deskie, I mean. I do have a new deskie, though, but I’ll hold off on the fun stuff until I’m done with everything else.

Over halfway done! REALLY gotta get on those emails…let’s see if next week is better for ’em.
