Living the Driven Life, Episode 171 (January 2-January 8, 2022): More relaxation…

Only 2 days of work period, and I moved my dentist’s appointment to the summer. So a pretty relaxin week overall!

Solid A day. Got a lot of sleeping and Vindy in, plus some work 😀 Also read next chappy, 142, of Musuko ga Kawaiikute Shitaganai. Merii’s plan worked, event though she has to listen to the big guy and Nightmare insult Zeke (and her, for coming up with such a crazy plan) and Clown and his goons escaped.

A- day. Didn’t play much Vindy since it was getting a little boring, but did go out to buy some stuff and got a bit of writing done. Not bad!

Solid A day. Played more Vindy, went out to eat, and got some writing done! Also finished up GLoria.

FANTASTIC day! Got a bit of work done on my project–not a whole lot, but a bit–but most importantly, while playing Vindy, I met an old friend I hadn’t seen in ages! Can’t believe they remembered me, but I’m glad they did. Meeting an old friend makes any day an A+!

A- day. Got one more character up to 110 in Vindy, but didn’t get much writing done. Also read next chappy of Kaiju no. 8, they have a funeral for Kikoru’s father and she resolves to get stronger, but not much else happened beyond that. Meh…

Ugh, B- day. It started out well with an easy day at work, but I made a dumb mistake, AND left my phone charger at work and had to rush back afterwards to get it! Least I had a nice meal at the Brick House, but argh.

Another B- day. Slept wrong and was feeling pretty out of it for most of the day, including at work, but at least the job wasn’t too tough and nothing really hard happened I had to deal with, so that was some nice luck at least. Didn’t get much work done on my personal projects either, oh well.

A-. Some good days, but some not so good days, but no absolutely terrible days, so it all worked out generally OK. I got some work done on my project but not quite as much as I wanted to.

Nothin really.

More work on my second project…

Vindy, vindy, vindy! Got a couple more characters up to level 105, which is enough to give a semi-passive benefit (Partholon Vanguard) that means I can sort of just sit down and get little items and such.

Got Gloria by Bentley Little in the mail last week, and finished up over the course of this week. It involves a suburban housewife named, you guessed it, Gloria, whose dead mother comes to visit her sooner after the funeral. Can’t give too much away, but Gloria’s attempts to solve the mystery of a dead person coming back to live (and no-one but her recognizing her mother) spiral into a bizarre, chaotic maelstrom of a story involving time loops, alternate universes, and the death of her beloved husband, Ben.

This is one of Little’s more original stories. Tje title alone is new for him (doesn’t even have a “the” in it) and it doesn’t involve a run of the mill guy suddenly getting attacked by a mundane person/thing (The Handyman, The Store, The Bank, etc.) turned evil. There is a lot of inner dialogue from Gloria about her life as a suburban California wife, which is standard Little, but aside from that the new direction he took the story is quite fascinating. However, there is one big flaw–it’s kind of repetitive. Again, I don’t wanna give away too much, but loops are an important part of the plot here, and I think Little could have cut out a couple of loops, because they seemed like just filler and didn’t do much to advance our understanding of the story, just repeated the story beats of the previous loops. Also, don’t expect the true nature of Gloria, her mother, and the loops to be *clearly* explained. It’s Little, so I’m used to it, but new readers might be disappointed at the lack of clear answers. With those caveats, some folks might give this 4/5 stars, but I personally was happy enough with the new direction Little took to give it 5/5.

What I said above.

Nothin much, though I did get a bit of writing done 😀

1: Finish up a second big project…

2: Maybe finish up a 3rd big project related to Berserk.

3: Maybe do something with Wayward Son I’ve wanted to do for a while, but also extra.

4: Obviously, get all my affairs in order–will, etc.

5: Finish a FOURTH big project I’ve had thoughts about for a while. Won’t say much more about it other than it involves Visual Novels.

6: *maybe* finish up a fic I’ve always wanted to put out. But this is really extra.

7: Read the end of Girl Genius. At least I got to see Lucrezia kicked out of Agatha’s mind, so that’s something.

8: Play Front Mission 5.

9: Play Brigandine: Grand Edition. I think I’ll work on these emulation related things when I get a new computer–a new deskie, I mean.

Week coulda been a little better, but not by a whole lot. Hoping next one is as good or better…
