WORKIN:

Sunday:

Put in a lot of hard work and managed not to break anything, today gets a solid A as far as I’m concerned 🙂

Monday:

Nother good day, put in some more work and also finally handed in Lab 1 for COM 447, A+ day 😀

Tuesday:

This day could get an A+ or an F, but ultimately I’ll lean towards A+, or hell, even A++++, for the principle of the thing.

IRL? Was just a little late to class due to getting caught in some traffic, but just a little, and I arrived just in time to take a test quiz that wasn’t graded anyways, so that was good. Went out to eat at Santora’s, and then got a decent bit of work done on all my college stuffs–finished my blog entry for COM 449, which is a pretty solid accomplishment that puts me a little ahead of the game!

So, why am I so ambivalent about this day?

Well, we officially got confirmation. Chapter 364 is the last chapter of Berserk, it has “end” rather than “to be continued.” I might write another entry later, but I guess what we have is the best we’ll get. At least we got one more chapter instead of everything just ending abruptly on 363. Cliched as it sounds, maybe the journey was more important than the destination…

In any case, today might get an F because a hope, albeit an unlikely one, I had was demolished, but on the other hand, at least we have official closure, which is better than nothing. Much better than nothing, really, as the last page of the series is very, very good. So in that sense it gets an A+, and I think that’s where I’ll keep it.

Wednesday:

Went out to eat and finished off Lab 2 for COM 447, definitely an A+ day.

Thursday:

Another A+ day…though a bittersweet one. Got an 8/10 on an ungraded quiz in COM 360 (next one for real next Thursday), went out to Santora’s, and finished off my first main assignment for COM 447; completing this is a major feather in my cap. Also read a little of Kaiju no. 8, though it was just an art chapter, the main story will continue next week. So why a bittersweet day?

Read the very last chapter of Berserk.

It was absolutely beautiful. Guts playing with the Moonlight boy like a gentle father, and Casca doting on him like a mother, and proof that they truly are the boy’s parents, as he was indeed the deformed demon baby absorbed into Griffith’s new, physical body. The very last page of the chapter, the very last thing Miura worked on before he passed, is the Moonlight Boy transforming into Griffith, who has a single tear streaming down his beautiful face. What an image…

And what a reminded of how much we’ve lost. The fact that Berserk will likely never be truly finished is the most devastating blow I can think of. But still, we got so much, and the last chapter we did get was of such sterling quality…I can’t be *that* unhappy. At least Miura left us on a hell of a high note.

Friday:

A++ day. Had a great time at work, and who knows, maybe found something very valuable, but thats melodramatic and something to talk about later. Then went home and got a wee bit more work done on one of my projects…

Saturday:

A+ day. No work, just did some shopping, ate out, and relaxed. 20th anniversary of 9/11, not much more to say about it than I’m glad we’re finally, finally out of Afghanistan. Sure as hell isn’t much I can say that others haven’t said already, and better.

THINGS I HAD TO FINISH THIS WEEK:

COM 447 Lab 1 – DONE!

COM 447 Lab 2 – DONE!

COM 447 Green Assignment – DONE!

Com 449 Project 1 – 3rd done!

COM 449 Workshop 1 – Just gotta hand it in!

COM 449 Workshop 2 – DONE

COM 449 Blog 1 – DONE

COM 360 stuff – none really this week (DONE)

THINGS I HAVE TO DO NEXT WEEK

Same kinda crap. Certainly lab 3 for Com 447…

EATAN:

WATCHAN:

Nothin really.

PLAYAN:

Nothin.

BOOK READAN:

Shallow Waters volume 2, edited by Joe Mynhardt. This is a super short (only about 87 pages) collection of short stories, each of which themselves are super super short (like a page or 2). The stories generally make up for their short length by being TWEESTY, like a page about a zombie apocalypse finally ending but it’s revealed the narrator was a zombie killing the last human. Nothing mindblowing in this collection, but it was only 99 cents, so for that price it was a fun romp, or more accurately, a fun series of tiny romps.

A much better collection of short stories is “Short Things.” Okay, so what happened was that recently they found a draft of Who Goes There, the short story by John W. Campbell that inspired John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” one of my fave horror movies. So they had a kickstarter to publish the new draft, and one of the stretch goals was to publish new short stories set in Campbell’s universe (not Carpenter’s, though there’s plenty of similarity). I got it. I highly recommend it. Some of the short stories were a little annoying, I’ll not spoil anything specific but they make the Things (the shapeshifting aliens) more ‘talkative’ than they were in either Campbell’s story or Carpenter’s movie, but other than that the stories were quite entertaining. Definitely got my money’s worth with this, though I didn’t back the Kickstarter.

MANGA READAN:

What I said above.

WRITAN:

Just classwork. VERY productive week in terms of that, got waaaaay more done than I thought I would. Blasting out my first assignment for COM 447 was a coup I hadn’t expected, but a very welcome one indeed!

BUCKET LIST PROGRESS

1: Read the end of Girl Genius. At least I got to see Lucrezia kicked out of Agatha’s mind, so that’s something.

2: Play Front Mission 5.

3: Play Brigandine: Grand Edition. I think I’ll work on these emulation related things when I get a new computer–a new deskie, I mean.

4: Finish up a second big project…

5: Maybe finish up a 3rd big project related to Berserk.

6: Finish a FOURTH big project I’ve had thoughts about for a while. Won’t say much more about it other than it involves Visual Novels.

7: *maybe* finish up a fic I’ve always wanted to put out. But this is really extra.

8: Maybe do something with Wayward Son I’ve wanted to do for a while, but also extra.

9: Obviously, get all my affairs in order–will, etc.

So yeah, very productive week, but…hearing that Berserk is pretty much done and I’ll never get to see a real ending for it has made me feel like hearing about Miura’s death all over again, even though the last page of the manga was incredible. But…that’s life, I suppose. Much like Guts, the only thing to do is to keep struggling. Aside from that this was an exceptionally good and productive week, here’s hoping the next is the same…
