Living the Driven Life, Episode 160 (June 20-June 26, 2021): Week picked up at the end, but not as good as it coulda been.

This week started out alright, sucked in the middle, but picked up by the end…coulda been worse.

Got a decent haul from Amazon and Gamestop!

To Terra manga and Aegis Rim, the game. Then I went out to Santora’s and when I got home, watched the second-last ep of Megalo Box 2. Sedate episode…Joe trains with Yuri to prepare for fighting Mac, his kid sidekicks refurbish Chief’s Gear, and the scientist guy’s female assistant seems to be having second thoughts about what the ROSCO corporation is doing, but the bulk of the story involves Mac. Emotionally distraught from the last episode, he ends up drunk under a bridge, but by coincidence he meets his former partner from the force, and they talk and reminsce about the past–Mac was an immigrant who met his wife while she was working as a low-wage worker before becoming a cop, and meeting his friend and reliving those memories rescues him from his despair and he returns to his wife and son, safe and sound, and determined to face Joe. It all comes to a head next week I suppose.

Also got a bit of writing done, the best in a couple weeks. Today gets an A-.

Not too much of a good day…relaxed, but didnt get much work done, though I did get a letter out. B+

Yay, my accountant got back to me and mailed me my tax documents. They might take a bit to arrive so I’ll prolly do FAFSA next week, no rush. Also got a bit of writing done. I’d say today gets an A-.

Absolutely shit day, no two ways around it. Missed an important phone call and that messed me up for the rest of the day, couldn’t get anything done. F, straight up F.

Little better, read the next ep of Kaiju No. 8, which is officially biweekly now (as expected). Thankfully, since Kafka’s regained control of himself, Shinomiya’s father (who’s more reasonable than he initially looked) agrees to let Kafka live and serve as a member of the Defense Force, because the monsters are just getting too powerful for humans to fight on their own. But what seems to be the primary antagonist, Monster no. 9, looks to want to get revenge on Kafka…oof.

Also got an eensy bit of writing done, so this day gets an A-.

VERY good day! Just got a bit of writing done, but at least I was able to get missing the phone call cleared up. A+!

Solid A day. Didnt get much writing done, but I did finish off my 4th Linguistics quiz, w00t! Only 2 more to go…

Next linguistics attendance and quiz – Done!

Fafsa -I’ll clear it up next week.

More writing! Done!

Same as above.

Just what I described above.

Didn’t have much time to play my new game this week, maybe next week.

The Night Cyclist by Stephen Graham Jones. It was a decent price, but I’m not very happy with it. The conceit is that the protag encounters a spooooky vampire cyclist as he wanders around cycling at night, but so much time is spent on his personal circumstances that I found uninteresting that the story left me cold. 3 stars.

Just what I said above. Also, Toward the Terra. I don’t want to spoil too much about this manga, but I think it was a very worthy read, maybe not to the extent of the price I spent on it (the volumes are rare and thus expensive on Amazon), but I can definitely see why it was so widely hailed when it came out. The art is a mix of shojo manga style and old school 70’s Ishinomori/Tezuka type art, which is neat, but the plot and characterization are very strong, and it raises a lot of interesting questions about both the value and purpose of human freedom and self-determination. Alas, the ending is kind of depressing and abstract, I hear the anime ends on a cheerier note–though you can sort of see how it influenced other media, going all the way back up to Darling in the Franxx, oddly enough (the theme of environmental despoliation).

A little bit of progress on my next project…

1: Read the end of Berserk. At least I got to see Guts get off the boat, so that’s good enough. – With Miura-sensei’s passing, I have to consider Guts leaving the boat to be good enough. Done…

2: Read the end of Girl Genius. At least I got to see Lucrezia kicked out of Agatha’s mind, so that’s something.

3: Finish up with Dragonar – YES! That’s DONE!

4: Publish my big project! DONE.

5: Play Front Mission 5.

6: Play Brigandine: Grand Edition. I think I’ll work on these emulation related things when I get a new computer–a new deskie, I mean.

7: Finish up a second big project…

8: Maybe finish up a 3rd big project related to Berserk.

9: Finish a FOURTH big project I’ve had thoughts about for a while. Won’t say much more about it other than it involves Visual Novels.

10: Donate maybe 100 dollars to a good charity I ought to find – DONE

11: *maybe* finish up a fic I’ve always wanted to put out. But this is really extra.

12: Maybe do something with Wayward Son I’ve wanted to do for a while, but also extra.

13: Maybe write one last long manosphere essay.

14: Obviously, get all my affairs in order–will, etc.

15: Finish up some other tasks Starseeker might have for me now that I owe it to her for Dragonar… – turns out there aren’t any, so though I suppose I’m a little sad I won’t have a chance to repay Starseeker, I can at least knock this off my bucket list…assuming she doesn’t find something else for me. DONE

16: Maybe a couple smaller essays on other topics – DONE

a: Critique of a blog article – DONE

b: Berserk analysis 1 – DONE

17: Maybe clear up some of the drafts I have in my drafts folder – DONE

On to next week, it should be a little better, so I hope…
