Living the Driven Life, Episode 158 (June 6-June 12, 2021): Good week, but not as productive as I’d hoped.

This was a good, fun week, and I got some nice work done, but not as much as I’d hoped. Distractions kept getting in my way. Hopefully over the next couple days I can really put the pedal to the metal.

Sunday:

Went out to the library and Santora’s, then watched ep 10 of Megalo Box. Neato, it starts off with Joe being unsure of whether he wants to face Mac, and then cuts to Shirato having a meeting with her shareholders–she wants to cut ties with the scientist guy’s company since he’s intending BES for military use, but that would lose too much money. Meanwhile, Shirato’s brother published an anti-BES article, and he’s confronted by the scientist guy’s female assistant, who threatens him with sanctions (he’s a university professor). It seems he knew the girl a few years back, and appeals to her conscience, which doesn’t really work. Joe then meets Mac at the hospital visiting Liu, where Mac talks about why he’s always admired Joe, and Liu tells him he should fight Mac–there’s also a flashback with Pops just before he dies, where he tells Joe he’ll always be with him–and then it’s at the grave, where Joe talks with Aramaki about fighting for the right reasons. The rest of the episode shows the old gang of orphans, Yuri and Liu, and the rest getting ready to support Joe, while Joe himself has one quick match with Sachio to prove the kid isn’t cut out for Megalo Boxing. Joe wins easily of course, but as the episode ends he collapses for some reason. I wonder why? Drug withdrawal or something?

After that I filled out a survey concerning Bloodstained that we thought would be fun following the news that a sequel is in the VERY early stages of development.

I didn’t have much time to do anything else today but no biggie, tomorrow will be better. This day gets an A overall.

Monday:

Excellent day! Didn’t get much writing done on a specific project. but I got some emails written off I needed to do for my linguistics course, and took care of various other small matters too. I also finally got out the piece I was writing! Check it out here:

It’s all in the (world) mystery

With those out of the way I should be able to really get down to business tomorrow, so today gets an A.

Tuesday:

Good day! Went to Santora’s again, picked up a library book, and went home and relaxed. Found that Starseeker didn’t need me for any projects after all, so I was able to scratch that off my bucket list…not exactly work done, but I felt happy enough that I spent the rest of the day relaxing.  This day gets an A.

Also, I hear Mangadex is finally back! However, my Internet provider seems not to like it very much…I may have to wait until they fix it up a bit as it’s still in early access. We’ll see.

Wednesday

Good day! Went to the dentist to repair a chipped toothie, so that took up much of the day, but! I FINALLY broke ground on my second project! Started writing in earnest on the first chapter. Only got 500 words down, but actually getting started on it definitely feels good. A+ day!

Thursday

Eventful day. No new Kaiju No. 8 chapter, its on break, but OMG elden ring trailer! Went to Denny’s again, but took a longer nap than I wanted so I only managed to get an eensy bit of work done on my next project. So that takes this day down to an A-, I gotta get a lot of work done on Friday and Saturday…

FRIDAY:

Oof, no luck. I went out to eat but spent a little more time than I needed outside, and that messed me up for the rest of the day. However, I did manage to play some more of The Last Spell and do my insurance waiver for next year. Tomorrow I gotta do FAFSA…

The Bloodstained fandom also kept me a lil busy, we’re renovating the discord and the official staff also released a neat interview with a voice actress. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfsetSS5_Sw

SATURDAY:

Got another 100 on my second Linguistics quiz, only 2 more to go :smirk: Also wanted to do my fafsa but it turns out I dont have my returns, I asked my accountant to email em to me so next week I’ll do it. After that, I watched next ep of Vivy.

Okay, so finally the explanation for why the big tower conglomeration of AIs rebelled is made clear, my only problem with it was that while the tower was mentioned constantly as the source of the AI rebellion throughout the series, the idea of the tower specifically being a mass consciousness was never mentioned before. But thats a super minor writing critique. Aside from that, the main AI thought humans were getting too dependent on AI and failing to evolve, and must be exterminated because of that. It also monitored Vivy’s progress throughout the past 100 years the series covered and worked to adapt to all the changes she made so the war would still come. However, it was interested in the song she made, and says something to her that we can’t hear.

In the real world, they plan to infiltrate the AI command center to stop it from dropping the satellites, and before the mission starts Osamu tells Vivy that his wife and daughter (who also died) loved her singing, which is why she was chosen for the Singularity Project.

So they invade the main tower and things seem to be going well, but then the security system activates and the task force is completely annihilated except for Vivy’s squad (Kakitani’s daughter is also fatally wounded, but she manages to activate a virus to stop the security program before she dies). Vivy, matsumoto, and Elizabeth manage to get to the core, but Elizabeth is destroyed taking out another security drone (shaped like Matsumoto). Unfortunately, it seems like the show has an unhappy ending–the AI, impressed with Vivy’s creativity, says it’ll stop the drop of the satellites if Vivy sings her song to it, and Vivy doesn’t, leading the satellites to crash on the Earth anyways, completely devastating it. However, there’s one more chance–Osamu managed to survive the drop of the satellites, realizes what they did wrong, and sends Vivy’s information back to the past one last time, telling her not to waste time saving him and head straight to the Archive tower. Man, that was a really cool idea, making us think the show would have a tragic ending but then using the time travel idea to provide a more fitting finale, I was really impressed. Now Vivy has the determination to sing, and should be able to save the world this time. Can’t wait for the last ep!

So yeah, very good day overall, A+!

THINGS I HAD TO FINISH THIS WEEK:

Next Linguistics attendance and quiz – DONE!

Maybe fill out fafsa? – I’ll do that next week

THINGS I HAVE TO DO NEXT WEEK

Next linguistics attendance and quiz

More writing!

EATAN:

WATCHAN:

Just what I said above.

PLAYAN:

The Last Spell. Finally beat the first stage (the last boss of the first zone). It’s really fun, and the music is AMAZING. Excellent buy! It’s still in early access though so there’s a TON of content they haven’t released yet.

BOOK READAN:

Nothin this week.

MANGA READAN:

What I said above.

WRITAN:

Published the essay I talked about, and also broke ground on my second project; not as much work done on that as I’d hoped, but oh well.

BUCKET LIST PROGRESS

1: Read the end of Berserk. At least I got to see Guts get off the boat, so that’s good enough. – With Miura-sensei’s passing, I have to consider Guts leaving the boat to be good enough. Done…

2: Read the end of Girl Genius. At least I got to see Lucrezia kicked out of Agatha’s mind, so that’s something.

3: Finish up with Dragonar – YES! That’s DONE!

4: Publish my big project! DONE.

5: Play Front Mission 5.

6: Play Brigandine: Grand Edition. I think I’ll work on these emulation related things when I get a new computer–a new deskie, I mean.

7: Finish up a second big project…

8: Maybe finish up a 3rd big project related to Berserk.

9: Finish a FOURTH big project I’ve had thoughts about for a while. Won’t say much more about it other than it involves Visual Novels.

10: Donate maybe 100 dollars to a good charity I ought to find – DONE

11: *maybe* finish up a fic I’ve always wanted to put out. But this is really extra.

12: Maybe do something with Wayward Son I’ve wanted to do for a while, but also extra.

13: Maybe write one last long manosphere essay.

14: Obviously, get all my affairs in order–will, etc.

15: Finish up some other tasks Starseeker might have for me now that I owe it to her for Dragonar… – turns out there aren’t any, so though I suppose I’m a little sad I won’t have a chance to repay Starseeker, I can at least knock this off my bucket list…assuming she doesn’t find something else for me. DONE

16: Maybe a couple smaller essays on other topics – DONE

a: Critique of a blog article – DONE

b: Berserk analysis 1 – DONE

17: Maybe clear up some of the drafts I have in my drafts folder – DONE

So yeah, pretty productive week, though maybe not as much as it should have been. That’s okay though, it happens. Let’s hope next week is better…
