FINAL EXAM

Bi-WEEKLY ATTENDANCE

WORKIN:

Sunday: Did a bit of math HW and knocked off some more discussions for COM 240. Gonna try to knock off the last presentation tomorrow.

Monday: Finished off a bit of Psychology stuff and COM 101 stuff. Also knocked off my last stuff for COM 225! DONE! FINALLY! At least with that one class…

So I finally got to reading some of my manga backlog:

King of Fantasy chapter 13:  After the skeevy magic guy causes that big explosion, it seems he actually awakens a real dragon sleeping within the mine–a 3 headed beast that looks kind of like Ghidorah from Godzilla, but who is recognizable as Orochi, Iori’s thing from the games I suppose. So the dragon roasts the creepy guy and the traitorous prince, and then naturally, our heroes have to fight it. Iori manages to blow one of its heads off, but freaks out and starts coughing, and the dragon uses its magic to trap him in a nightmare or metal prison. So then Althena and Lili (the Yuri Sakizaki of this fantasy world) have to take on the dragon by themselves…Lili casts a fire spell on Althena’s sword (a reference to a powerful weapon that saps one’s life force from Althena’s original game), but even with that it seems like she’s unlikely to win.

King of Fantasy chapter 14: Lilili and Althena do a better than expected job fighting the dragon, but it still isn’t enough and he resists all their attacks. It looks like everything is over, and for some reason Althena admits her love for Iori–I wasn’t expecting that, I wonder if the manga might end soon. With one last attack she manages to cut off another of the dragon’s heads, but collapses, her strength spent. But Iori, trapped in his mental prison, sees an image of his rival from the KoF games, Kyo, and that breaks him out of it. Guess he’ll be able to destroy the dragon now…

Also read the end of chapter 11 and chapter 12 of War’s Unwomanly Face. These were really affecting–a survivor of the war detailing how all her friends were killed, and a portrayal of how absolutely ruthless the Germans could be. The author of the original book, Alexievich, also offered some very insightful analyses of how candid her interviewees could be and the circumstances under which they’d be less than forthcoming; these insights were translated well into manga form.

Then I caught up on the next few chapters of Kaiju No. 8. The action scenes are cool, but predictable–our protag’s human teammates manage to get some good hits in on the monster puppetmaster, but not enough to beat him, so our hero transforms and rescues his friends just before the monster kills em. The protag wrecks the puppetmaster easily, but just as he’s about to deliver the killing blow some reinforcements arrive that don’t know who he is, so he has to retreat and let the main monster get away to prevent a “friendly fire” incident.

Then the next few chapters of Delinquent Exorcist Reina! Chapter 31 seems to be setting up the stage for a longer plotline, but there’s also some character development–our protag’s school is doing a costume party for Halloween, and as you can imagine, the big guy and their male teacher have been assigned female costumes. But rather than just another crossdressing joke, the teacher admits he has a gynophobia problem because of his being harassed by a female ghost earlier in the story, so the crossdressing thing is actually an opportunity for him to recover from his phobia. But then in the next chapter, it’s back to scary stuff as they get into the school’s seven mysteries, with a creepy baby ghost that keeps showing up in people’s lockers, and a few other things the principal asks them to deal with. There’s also a bit of humor, as the big beefy guy uses his sister’s ghost to do a great “ventriloquism” thing XD

Then, finally, chapters 17 and 18 of Send My Regards to Kenshiro. First, background on our hero’s patient–he was a computer guy who spent so long hunched in front of a screen that his upper body became as hard as a rock, something an ordinary masseur couldn’t handle! But of course, the protag is no ordinary masseur. Then the actual massage starts, and there are some funny comparisons to Uri Gellar and chefs, though I guess the mangaka did some research on actual massage therapy which passed me over.

Tuesday: Finished the last damn HW for COM 217.

Wednesday: Finished off the project for COM 240. Now all I have for that is the final paper…

Thursday: Had nothing really to do, so I just relaxed. Read the next ep, 19, of Kaijuu no. 8: As our hero’s escaping, he runs into his commander, the twin-sword guy, and they start fighting. Not much more than that, another short chapter…ah, well.

Friday: Just puttered around the house. Downloaded Phoenix Point for Steam, but I dunno if I’m gonna give it a look…like I mentioned a while back, considering how underwhelming it turned out to be (plus the stumped features) compared with how much I was looking forward to it, I feel so ambivalent about it I’m not sure I can bear to touch it. Maybe I’ll look at it in a while. In better news, I seem to have got my payment fixed up with Stripe, I think I might try writing more for Medium…

Saturday: Urk, I think I missed a COM 240 quiz, but whatever. I read the next chap of Delinquent Exorcist Reina–really liked it, they deal with the “8 ghosts” pretty quickly, but each of them in a very funny way XD

My Berserk vol. 6 (deluxe) also came in today! 😀

Things I Had To Finish This Week:

Just a bunch of crap.

Miscellaneous Goals:

Nothing really.

Things to Do Over The Next Week

Last God damn week of the semester, that’s all.

FUN STUFF:

EATAN:

TIMAN:

Had to spend a bit more time than I expected QCing, so the ep will be out next week, probably early 😀

WATCHAN:

Nothing this week.

PLAYAN:

I revisited They Are Billions. The addition of some features, like a save backup and custom map maker, address some of the problems I had with it and make it MUCH more fun, so I changed my Steam review of it to positive.

BOOK READAN:

Nothing really.

MANGA READAN:

What I described above.

WRITAN:

Nothing.

On to next week…we’ll see how it goes.

Sweet work, man. You keep rolling like a boulder down the hill, crushing one goal after another, creating an avalanche which nothing and nobody can stop.
Excellent work. Just stay focused and aim for the main targets coming into range.
Just make sure you eat healthy and not too much junk as you got to oil that machine of yours well like the high performance unit it is.
Lock’N’load and keep up the good fight. I got faith in you that you will make it. 🙂
We move at the end of this coming week and I take your fight through all those tests and exams as inspiring example to go through this stressful ordeal on Thursday and Friday.
    Thanks for your energy.

    1. Good luck with your move, friend!

Muchas gracias. We’re quite confident it will run quite smoothly.
