Bi-WEEKLY ATTENDANCE

WORKIN:

Sunday: Knocked off my third journal and quiz for COM240 and another coupla research reports for PSY101. Also knocked out my online discussion for 217, though not the quiz, and the 4th quiz and attendance thing for Psych. I’ve had worse days.

Monday: Blasted Quiz 3 for COM217 and COM225, then attended mah Stats class. Also went to send my computer back to the factory at the nearby Fedex office.

Aside from that, read the next chapter of Musuko, more cute slice of life stuff, and a little bit of plot advancement about one character going off to college. Nice!

Tuesday: Read They Feed by Jason Parent. Essentially, our protagonist, Tyler, had a really rough childhood but seems to be on the verge of getting back on track, but it all goes to hell one day when he goes hunting in a forest in Kansas and someone jumps out of the woods at him. He shoots the person by accident, but that shot wasn’t what killed the unfortunate guy…he was already covered in wounds that seem like they came from a werewolf or something! But Tyler’s blamed for both his death and others in the area and is sent to prison for 6 years. When he gets out, he returns to the forest for “closure” but he meets the sister of the guy he supposedly killed…along with the bizarre creatures that actually killed the guy, and some other unfortunate people being hunted by the monsters. The rest of the night is a blood-drenched battle between the few human survivors and the monsters!

This was actually a fair bit better than I thought it would be–well-drawn (if not likable) characters, white-knuckle action, and a twist at the end I was REALLY not expecting. My only critique is that the nature of the creatures was never really made clear, though they were pretty original. 5 stars, easy!

Also read They Came With the Rain by Christopher Coleman. So in a small, isolated town in Arizona, it starts raining after a very long time, and a sinkhole suddenly opens up, and weird demon things pop out of it and start killing/disappearing the townspeople in brutal ways. There are only a handful of survivors–a couple of cops and kids–who have to figure out why the demons arrived and how to send them back before it’s too late!

Eh…big eh from me. This story is okay, but nothing special. Characters…okay, but nothing especially unexpected. The writing is good enough, and there are some scares, but the plot and the story behind the monsters? Big eh. The way it was laid out was just exposition dumps and flashbacks rather than any interesting use of the narrative itself. And the way the monsters were actually defeated (I don’t wanna spoil too much, but it was a “power of innocence/goodness” type thing) struck me as kind of smarmy and saccharine. But, whatever. Not the worst thing I’ve ever bought. 3 stars.

Wednesday: Attended my second stats lecture of the week and worked a bit on the COM101 research req.

Thursday: Knocked off my second (technically third) HW for Stats. Then I read the next chapter of Kaijuu no. 8, not much action this chapter, just our hero getting friendly with his fellow squadmates, nice character-building. Also checked out ep. 23 of No Guns Life.

Nother good, action packed episode. Olivier (Juzo’s lady friend in the ‘official’ police department) concentrates on evacuating civvies from the area Juzo and Seven are fighting in, and Kronen continues his fight with Seven as Juzo’s still knocked out. He asks Pepper and Seven what their plan is, but before they can answer, Beruehren’s private soldiers arrive, intending to kill everyone there so Beruehren’s secrets won’t be revealed. It looks like Pepper and Seven were doing most of this on their own, they were just supposed to kill Wachowski and retrieve Tetsuro, not fight Juzo and make a scene. Of course, the Beruehren mooks are no match for Seven and he easily kills most of them, helping Pepper flee, but when Pepper sees the crowd around them she starts freaking out and going on about how people are finally paying attention to her. She tells Seven to kill everything, all the civvies and soldiers so it’ll always be like that–man, she’s crazy! Fortunately, before she can, another Beruehren agent appears with a powerful stake driver and shoots her, managing to blow one of her arms off. This makes Seven go absolutely berserk and he gets ready to slaughter the entire city, but just in time, Tetsuro’s harmony hack works and Juzo’s full power is unleashed–he regenerates himself with his nanomachines or whatever, He tries to convince Seven to take Pepper to a hospital before she dies, but he’s too pissed off and attacks Juzo. But Juzo beats him pretty easily, saying he’s stronger because Tetsuro’s not directly controlling him like was the case in the past, only unlocking his true power and letting him use it. But as the episode ends, we see the evil leaders of Beruehren, saying everything is according to plan…they seem to have set this whole thing out just to test Tetsuro’s powers, and they say something about “Astraea.” I wonder what that’s about?

This was a cool episode and the fight choreography was very good, but my only complaint is that the climactic fight between Seven and Juzo was entirely in CG, which looked sorta off putting. Ah, well…

Friday:

YES! EXTREMELY successful day today, my friends! I managed to just about finish my first big (well, comparatively) essay for COM240. It’s not 100% done, I have to clean it up a bit, but the bulk of the work is done. That’s a massive success, it’ll give me more time to study for my PSY 101 exam on Saturday and Sunday. I still have to do the presentation for it though, but at least that’s one thing taken care of.

Saturday:

Not much–my Psy101 test is later next week, Thursday, so I can put that off for a little bit. I just did some extra credit math stuff and worked on COM 240 stuff. Knocked out the 4th discussion and 4th quiz for that, but couldn’t find the 4th learner’s journal. Reeeeee!

Things I Had To Finish This Week:

COM101 stuff

COM217 stuff

COM 225 stuff

COM 240 stuff

PSY 101 stuff

STA 119 stuff

Miscellaneous Goals:

Knock my first COM240 essay out of the way. DONE! More or less, tho, just gotta correct it and hand it in.

Things to Do Next Week:

I got a couple more quizzes and the PSY101 test next week, it’s gonna be hectic!

FUN STUFF:

EATAN:

TIMAN:

Nothin…:sob:

WATCHAN:

No Guns Life ep. 23, as I described.

PLAYAN:

Just more Battlefleet Gothic Armada II, on the Tyranids this time.

BOOK READAN:

Nothing aside from my studies, just the horror books I described above.

MANGA READAN:

Next couple of chapters of Musuko ga Kawaikute Shikataganai Mazoku no Hahaoya and Kaiju No. 8.
WRITAN:

A 5-page essay on a historical figure for COM240, not a whole lot.

So yeah, good week overall, but it’s gonna be tough next week. Things are heating up…wish me luck!
