WORKIN:

Monday: Bombed another quiz in math–this chain rule stuff is absolutely stumping me. I don’t think I’ll be able to figure it out in time to rescue my grades and just studying it is burning me out as badly as I was the first time around in college. I also found out I did relatively poorly on the test–an 86; while not so bad considering how well I’ve traditionally done in math, I needed at least a 95 to offset how poorly I’ve been doing on the quizzes. I don’t think I can continue like this.

Tuesday: Saw an academic advisor and discussed going from a BSc in Compsci to a BA. The math stuff might be a little less involved, but even so, if I can’t handle basic chain function derivatives, it’s not as if even a BA will be much easier. I might have to give some serious thought to withdrawing entirely, and then think of what I’m going to do from there.

Wednesday: Well, looking at the actual test in math class I felt a little better…I actually would have got a score in the 90s, but I lost points not even for little things, but for very persnickety things. For instance, in one problem we had to demonstrate a function was continuous by proving 3 things. I worded my answer as “this functions fulfills all three conditions for continuity,” but I lost a point because it was supposed to be, “therefore, f(x) is continuous).” A few years ago I would have been super irritated, but now, it’s no big deal. I’m just happy I actually know the material. Still, I really don’t know this chain rule stuff…I *might* be able to get away with it if the stuff in later chapters doesn’t involve it that much. But I can’t even get through the homeworks!

Thursday: Project 1 for compsci came out. It looks to be an assload of work, but I got started on it all day. Prepared to take it to some TAs tomorrow for help.

Friday: Productive day. I met with another advisor about going for a BA. It seems there’s a ton of stuff I have to do: I first have to make sure some of my classes will actually transfer over, because they weren’t registered as doing so on my transfer sheet, and THEN I have to make sure my uni allows me to transfer courses that weren’t taken at the uni. I’ll do that next week. Aside from that tho, I got the next compsci lab done with, yay.

Saturday: Just stayed home and studied.

Sunday: As above.

Things I Had To Finish This Week:

Make some progress on changing over to a BA, get started on my compsci project.

Miscellaneous Goals:

Got started on the Bsc to BA change…

Things to Do Next Week:

Continue work on the compsci project, keep trying to change by Bsc to a BA…

WRITAN:

Still nothing, right now I’m just waiting for another guy–I don’t wanna reveal who he is either, but this is ANOTHER great vouch for my book–to finish reading a manuscript I sent him and get back to me. It might take a little longer, but it’s really gonna be worth it 😀

Alright, so, in general: Next week might or might not be a breaking point. See, I’ve read ahead a little bit, and it seems like only a couple of things–the chain rule and finding derivatives of functions that have both x and y variables (implicit differentiation)–are completely beyond me. Once I get past those, some of the subsequent material, like finding global/local minimums and maximums of function, should be halfway doable. I think at this point I’ll have to resign myself to completely bombing those quizzes and those parts of the upcoming test and final, but if I do really well on the rest of the stuff, I may have a chance to pass with above a C, which is all I care about. Let’s see how next week goes…
